An app redesign case study for a co-working cafe
Coffeefy Workafe in Juarez, Mexico City is a cafe and workspace catering to freelancers, entrepreneurs, startups, and remote workers. They offer workspaces, private meeting rooms, and a full cafe-style menu. To simplify booking and food delivery, Coffeefy uses a mobile app. I redesigned their app to enhance the user experience for their customers.
In May 2022, I visited Coffeefy as a customer and used the app to order food. Unfortunately, I encountered several problems while using it.
Around that time, I was contemplating a career shift into design and had been independently studying UX principles. This made me more aware of the UX issues in the app. As luck would have it, I was seated next to the software developer who created the app! I took a chance at a learning opportunity and offered to help him improve the user experience of the app.
My main objective in starting this project was to learn about UX design, learn how to use the tools and acquire hands-on experience in redesigning a mobile app while collaborating with a developer and a business owner.
Even though the design ultimately didn’t make it to development, it provided me with valuable insights into user-centric design, particularly in conducting interviews, creating personas and designing mockups. I enjoyed engaging with cafe patrons to gather feedback on the app and I also gained experience using Figma to create a high-fidelity prototype.
Take a look at some of my final mockups below or read my case study for more details about my design process and learnings.
